Homecoming – 12 February 2023

Earlier this week was my homecoming event, organised by my expedition sponsors. It was the first time I’d properly been out of the house since coming back to the UK on 28 January.

I’ll admit I felt nervous about it. Normally I’m full of energy, but recovery has been slower than I’d like and the thought of a full evening felt daunting. Thankfully, I had lifts there and back, and once I was in the room, surrounded by so many incredible supporters, the nerves disappeared.

The timing made it extra special – it was also my birthday! I turned 34, proudly wore a birthday badge (thank you, Dave!), and celebrated properly. I’ve always believed in birthday month, even if Dave disagrees.

Despite wearing a dressing on my leg, I decided to put on a dress – and I’m glad I did. The dressing might even have added to my style!

A huge thank you to everyone at the Lorraine show for doing my hair and makeup that morning, and to everyone who came to celebrate with me. I was overwhelmed by the support in the room.
