Going North – Day 7

Hi Everyone, Day 7. I saw lots of Polar Bear tracks today. I am carrying a firearm, Polar Bear fence and flares with me for safety.

I’m going to repeat a line that is in Sikh Prayers which I have been saying daily.

Without fear. Without hate.

Without fear doesn’t mean fear disappears. It means I keep moving even when it’s there. Fear has been present on every expedition, I’ve just learned it doesn’t get to decide the direction.

My biggest fear for this expedition was that I wouldn’t make it to the start line. That fear came true. I didn’t make it to the start line I had originally planned, so I adapted and created a different one.

And without hate doesn’t mean nothing has hurt me. It means I try not to carry anger toward the people or systems that made the path harder.

That kind of weight would slow me down far more than any sled. Travelling across ice, through uncertainty and discomfort, has brought me closer to my faith.

Closer to the person I am when everything else falls away.
